Companies are focussing more and more on the realm of employee emotional health.  A report by Buck Consultants states that 69% of multinational organisations have a global heath strategy.  Studies show that employee happiness has a strong effect on their productivity, loyalty and effectiveness in their work environment.

In response many organisations now offer seminars or workshops in the areas of positive psychology, resilience and stress management.

Unlike traditional psychology which works to treat problems as they arise, positive psychology looks at the constructive attributes and how to strengthen them.  Positive psychology focuses on the talent of each individual and then nurtures that talent to assist in living a more fulfilled life.  The five aspects of positive psychology include positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishments.  There are practical exercises designed to improve each of these areas in an individual’s life.

Resilience refers to an individual’s ability to cope with stress in a positive manner.  Building up resilience reduces stress and decreases the chance of an individual suffering from depression or another form of mental illness.  Building resilience produces employees able to operate at peak efficiency levels.

These seminars are designed to be proactive, rather than reactive.  Their focus is to prevent problems before they occur.
